ABOUT US

Rumbiņi is the place where three Latvian poets – Fricis Bārda, Antons Bārda and Paulīna Bārda – lived. The museum’s vast territory offers not only buildings and everyday objects from the poets’ lifetimes, but also the beautiful nature that inspired them. The birch trees planted by Fričs Bārda, the willows planted by his father, maples, lime trees and other trees that are a favourite home for birds are rustling here, so there are plenty of them. Frogs perform in the ponds in spring, and flowers bloom in the meadows all summer long. An apple orchard awaits guests at Rudeņi.

Here you can see:

  • Fričs and Antons Bārda’s father’s house;
  • the house built by Fričs Bārda, where he and his family spent the last summers of their lives;
  • the garden cottage, where many poems were written;
  • the barns, where you can see the tools used on the farm.

The exhibitions in the houses tell the story of the lives of their inhabitants when the poets still lived there.

Other buildings in the area include a sauna, a small cattle barn and a monument to Fričis Bārds by the sculptor Vilnis Tītitāna.

We offer:

  • orientation in the museum territory by reading the poetic lines of the Bard family poets,
  • guided tours,
  • museum pedagogical programmes:

– “Along the trails of life and poetry of Fricis and Paulina Bard” (for primary school-age pupils).

– “Bukuraga sētā” (for 1st-6th grade).

– Fricis Bārda. Life and personality of the poet. (for secondary school pupils).

The museum’s exhibitions can also be consulted outside museum opening hours by prior arrangement by phone 26329315 or e-mail – rumbini@limbazi.lv.
