It is located in Užava municipality, Ventspils region, 18 km from Ventspils, in an uninhabited area 3 km from Užava. The lighthouse was built on a 28 m high dune close to the beach. Today, the original appearance of the lighthouse has been preserved.

21 m high cylindrical stone lighthouse, built in 1879. Its beacon lights twice with a period of 10 seconds. In German times the lighthouse was known as Backofen, sometimes pronounced Bakofen. In 1930, the foot of the lighthouse was reinforced with juniper wicker baskets filled with pebbles and large boulders. In the 1970s the shore was reinforced with concrete blocks. The tower and the building were overhauled in 1994.
