Skrunda Castle Hill is located on the banks of the Venta River and is a popular recreational spot for both locals and tourists. The castle mound has a stage and is surrounded by a park with a sculpture by Ģ. The castle is surrounded by a park with wooden chairs made by the Curonian monks. The castle mound is the subject of tales – both about the underground passages and about the white woman “Ventas Vārava”, who comes out once every hundred years.
There is a walking trail along the castle mound and the Venta River. There are benches, a place to rest and have a campfire, several stopping points to admire the picturesque Kurzeme landscape and a sensory trail.
In 2020, a bathhouse or “gypsy bath” was created on the trail, which is open to residents and visitors free of charge. Visitors should bring their own firewood and sauna brooms.
