A mighty, majestic wall rising straight out of the Gauja. The most impressive cliffs in the Gauja valley, characterised by a continuous monolithic sandstone surface. The story goes that the echo against this rock sounded like an organ, hence the name Organ Rocks. Originally called Pieškali Rock, it was renamed in the Soviet years.
The rock wall is 700 m long and 300 m surrounded by the Gauja River. The first 130 m is a vertical sandstone wall up to 22 m high, then there are several bumps slightly inclined into the river. The rocks are fractured, with signs of slipping and collapse of some blocks. An old river lake has formed at the foot of the rock. The western part of the cliffs, which is set back from the Gauja and hidden behind trees, is 21,5 m high. In the lower part, where the cliffs almost end and rejoin the river, there is the Eagle niche and springs.
Ērgļi Cliffs is one of the most important tourist attractions in the Gauja National Park, well-equipped for sightseeing (viewing platforms, trails, stairs). From the viewing platform above the cliffs, you can enjoy a majestic view across the Gauja.
