ABOUT US

We, the owners of Rožmalu, are farmers and we want to show our visitors how farming has evolved through the centuries, from ancient times to today’s new technologies. We have created a wonderful exhibition in the Ribbe windmill – “The Grain Route”. We value the heritage left by our ancestors – the Ribbe windmill, which is not only our pride, but also the pride of the region and brings to life the landscape of the time in the Bauska region.

The construction of the windmill, its equipment and details have been built and tested over the centuries and it is one of the most complex monuments of folk construction that has preserved the heritage and working virtues of our ancestors.

The Ribbe windmill was built between 1867 and 1869 according to a Dutch design, which was typical of large and powerful windmills at that time. The mill is named after the first owner, Riba. It is said that for the construction of the windmill, the workers received one sieve* of grain per day, and the foreman a silver rouble.

IMPORTANT

• Tours are offered from 10 persons with an age limit of 6 years.
• Due to the limited space of the mill, large groups are divided into groups of 20 people each.
• The accompanying teacher is free of charge.
• Please make your reservations at least 5 working days before the scheduled tour date. Opening times for tours are on weekdays from 9:00 – 18:00 or can be arranged individually.
• You can choose to bake a single pretzel or pie at the time of booking. The price of the tour remains the same.
