The memorial was designed and created by sculptor Ģirts Burvis, who is also the author of the V. Plūdonis monument. The total area of the memorial is exactly the same as the area of the Bauska Great Synagogue, and the stone images symbolise Jews coming out of the church after the service. In the centre of the memorial is a symbolic bimah on which is written: “Dedication to the Jews of Bauska, who lived here for centuries and built this town, and who were killed by the Nazis and their local helpers in 1941.
The memorial “Synagogue Garden” was created thanks to the initiative of the descendants of Bauska Jews in Israel, the USA and Great Britain, donations, the support of the Bauska Municipality Council, the Council of Jewish Communities of Latvia.
