The Tālivalžis Monument was created thanks to three remarkable men – Andris Vārpas (sculptor), Jānis Lejiņš (writer) and Rihards Circenis (philanthropist, farmer). The monument was unveiled on 15 September 2011 in the centre of Trikata, opposite the Meeting House, and is the only monument in Latvia dedicated to an Old Latvian ruler.
The 2.4 metre high monument depicts a ruler sitting in a chair with a hawk on his shoulder, the bird of destiny. The inscription “King Tālivaldis” adorns the foot of the monument.
The granite stone of the monument’s figure is from Gulbene, which used to be a part of Tālava, while the foundation stone, in which the names are carved, is from the land of Trikata.
