Around 1923, a stage was built in the branches of the oak tree. During the Green Balls, it housed a choir and musicians (up to 68 people). And the party-goers twirled and danced under the oak’s thick branches. During the Second World War, the oak was a good observation point and was used by Russian observers. The trunk of the oak tree still contains evidence from both world wars and is full of bullets and shrapnel.
In recent years, the growth of the oak tree has become increasingly slow until it has almost stopped altogether.
