ABOUT THE MUSEUM
The Džūkste Fairy Tale Museum is dedicated to the great Latvian fairy tale collector A. Lerhim-Puškaitis and fairy tales, as well as to the preservation of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Džūkste parish. Visitors are invited to listen to the Džūkste fairy tales and tell their own stories, watch a puppet show and participate in it themselves, as well as see exhibitions and create fairy tale characters themselves.

Programme “Louise’s Water Pretzels”
The Museum of Fairy Tales of Djūkste offers a programme “Louise’s Water Pretzels”, during which participants learn about table culture and, together with Louise Lerch, learn to make water pretzels according to a special recipe from the Djūkste region. While the pretzels are baking, the museum staff will tell you about the Fairy Tale Museum and, through fairy tales, get to know the folklorist A. Lerhi-Puškaitė, who once lived and worked at the Lancenieki School. At the end of the programme, tasting of homemade water pretzels and enjoying seven-herb tea.
Duration of the programme: up to 2 hours.
Participation fee: EUR 60.00 (for a group of up to 20 persons).
Outing programme “Fairy tales in a travel bag
” The outing programme of the Džūkste Fairy Tale Museum “Fairy tales in a travel bag” is an attractive story about the Džūkste Fairy Tale Museum, the father of fairy tales Ansis Lerhi-Puškaitis and his contribution to the collection of Latvian folk tales and fairy tales.
Excursion to the interactive exhibition “Natural Treasures of Ķemeri National Park
” The Džūkste Fairy Tale Museum offers an excursion to the interactive exhibition “Natural Treasures of Ķemeri National Park”. The opportunity to get to know and explore Latvian nature through various tasks – what grows in the meadows, what lives in the waters, swamps and forests. The exhibition is open at from 5 May to 28 December.
Fairy Tale Room
The museum staff has created an opportunity for its little visitors to take part in Sprīdītis’ journey: to defeat the big bear, search for treasures and trick robbers, listen to stories and fairy tales and draw all the adventures. Fairy Tale Room is based on the Latvian folk tale “Sprīdītis” written down by A. Lerch – Puškaiš in Džūkste. Sprīdītis is a small, inquisitive, resourceful and brave boy who sets out to explore the world. “A father had a son no bigger or smaller than three sprīžis. He nicknamed his son Sprite. He was a dwarf, a toad, but he had the guts of a giant. He said: “If I have no stomach for such a moderate man, where shall I go? Once upon a time, Spidey determined to see the world. He took his legs over his shoulders and went and went until…”, – what happens next, come, see, experience, enjoy, at the Džūkste Fairy Tale Museum.
Puppet Theatre
The Džūkste Fairy Tale Museum invites children and parents to visit not only the museum, but to engage in colourful and exciting adventures, to indulge in creative improvisations, to take on the roles of Latvian folktale characters themselves, acting them out with hand puppets.
