The only wooden observation tower publicly accessible in the vicinity has been opened in the territory of the Ogre Valley Nature Park on the border of Meņģele and Taurupe parishes, offering a view of both parishes of Ogre municipality as well as the Ogre River valley.

The observation tower was built in the same place where the fire tower was located in the 1960s-1970s. Its installation is in line with the central question of Dulla Duca’s story: what is beyond the horizon and is the earth round? Dullais Dauka is highlighted in this project because the author of the story about the curious boy, the writer Sudrabu Edžius, was born and spent his childhood in Meņģele parish, and the writer’s childhood home “Zvaniņi” is located on the border of Taurupe and Meņģele parishes on the old bank of the Ogre River, near which, in a grove of oak and birch trees, the folk poet Imants Ziedonis and his companions created the Dullais Dauka trail with special stones, one of which bears the inscription “Dullais Dauka”.

How to find the lookout tower?

On the V964 from Taurupe to Mengele, pass by the Aderkaši Church, and ahead, on the left, you will see the Dullais Dauka grove, which is also the landmark of the lookout tower. The lookout tower and the grove are right on the side of the road, you won’t miss them!
